When all you love is music, when your life is set to a beat, when your communication is reminiscent of a melody, when your happiness involves harmony, then you'll understand me. Welcome to the Royal Revue, a blog on music and entertainment. Here, art imitates life so don't automatically place this blog in the 'music only'. When I see a chance to inspire or inform, I will do so, without reservation. Enjoy!
Sooo, the first peek of anything full from the new Day 26 album (set to release April 14th) has surfaced. The Brian Michael Cox-produced aka "B-Cox Joint" kinda finds me with a mixed feeling. Seems a little more of the same for me, if not overproduced and over-thought. However, if Day 26 follows the same path as Danity Kane, this should prove to be a better album for them, probably sporting more of a distinct direction than the first. But if this is the direction, I may have to pass.
Now, I'm nothing near a hater, but am I the only one a little excited that Wrigley's decided to stop the Chris Brown ads due to his current... situation? Tough break, but that commercial gets on my nerves.
Sooo, apparently these is now beef between these two ever-barechested buddies. I wonder what made them fall out??? Maybe soulja boy can explain.... lol Long story short, Bow Wow made some comments (as usual), Soulja Boy replied and EVERYTHING is on youtube for the world to laugh at.
The statement that started it all [From Bow Wow]
Soulja Boy Fires Back Diss to Bow Wow
OMG!!! DID HE REALLY JUST SAY ALL OF THAT???? HAHA

...I get scared right around 5:00. hahaha!
THEY BOTH NEED BETTER RECORD SALES SO KUDOS TO THIS BEEF! lol
The Grammy's last night was ummmm, ok. Starting off with a performance I really could care less about - I happen to believe Coldplay is HIGHLY overrated, and then Whitney Houston presenting the first award (Clive really pulled some strings last night.) I estimate that around 5-7 awards were actually given out on TV, and I wish their had been more. For a show that was jam-packed by sooo many performances, why did they have the same stars performing over and over again ie. Justin Timberlake, T.I., Lil Wayne?? It just kinda got old. All in all, it wasn't bad, but I wasn't necessarily happy I recorded it to my DVR... in other words, I probably won't be replaying any of it.
Jennifer Hudson DID deserve this one, at least.
...And I am staying AT LEAST 50 feet away from the Chris Brown/Rihanna beat down fiasco. I'll leave that one up to the gossip columns.
Standout Performances:
1.Justin Timberlake & Al Green- Let's Stay Together... Classic
2. Radiohead- 15 Steps... Definitely made me a fan
3. Katie Perry- I Kissed a Girl... definitely gave life to the show.
4. Four Tops (remaining member), Ne-Yo, Smokie Robinson, and Jamie Foxx... Jamie almost ruined it for me tho. All that running around wasn't necessary.
Okay, so I know EVERYONE has been talking about this interview between Katie Couric and Lil' Wayne. Most people discuss Lil' Wayne's responses to Katie's question. I'd like to just bring to light the fact that Katie asks some pretty tough questions to wayne. I would even venture to say that this was the best interview I have ever seen done on Lil' Wayne. She is asking all the good questions... I could care less about the relationship between him and Nivea, Superhead, Solange, or whoever he has been linked to.
Now, in relation to what it did for the African-American community in the eyes of other cultures, let's just say that I don't think it gave Obama another kudo for waving his "magic wand" making yet another thing seem to get better. I may not like everything he said, however, I do respect his right to say it.
So, rumors that her third album Fantasy Ride was being shelved by her label have NOT proven true. While I'm not fond of the song AT ALL, the video for "Never Ever," has Ciara looking the best she probably ever has. Take a look at the second single (the first was "Go Girl") from the album. By the way, I'm not sure if another Ciara album is exactly a fantasy for me... yet.
For the record, I am VERY proud of this black woman. She came from playing a ghetto baby mama in Baby Boy (pictured above with Tyrese), to an Oscar nominated part in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. The before and after is a pleasure to watch.
Taraji P. Henson everybody.... Keeping it Royal! ...and looking GOOOOD!
Ok, there is a VERY thin line between genius and insane and for the most part, Lil Wayne has remained on the genius side. I mean, what more needs to be said about his last album, The Carter III (in case you were under a rock somewhere, it sold over 1 million copies in one week). Gearing up for his next album, you gotta wonder what he would do next. Rock... didn't quite come to mind. We should have seen it coming, seeing as Lil Wayne CLEARLY "rocked out" during the NERD performance at last year's BET Awards. But a WHOLE rock album??? Highly questionable-- maybe even... insane, especially after viewing the performance for the first single Prom Queen, off the album entitled "The Rebirth." Take a look and tell me something isn't wrong this situation. (Theres even a guy in the video pointing at Weezy and saying, "He's crazy!" at 2:46)
Ok, so I'm logging into myspace, checking messages and whatnot as I usually do and I notice my myspace friend, Diddy, has posted a bulletin advertising the new Making the Band 4 season. Now, for those of you that care, the fourth installment of Making the Band showed the formation of Day 26, and subsequently, Donnie Klang, THEN, marched on to the next season with both groups, Danity Kane (formed in the 3rd MTB installment) and Day 26, coinciding and touring together. There was plenty of love and pain, reuniting and separating, whining and dining, and horses and hotel rooms in this season... whew. But, it ultimately ended with Danity Kane members D. Woods and Aubrey being ousted from the group. NOW (that you're up to speed), this season features Day 26's struggle to survive (the current shelf life of a Making the Band group is two albums... this is their 2nd) AND the answer to whether Danity Kane is actually no more, or no more than a publicity stunt. For some reason, I don't think this season will have the punch we've seen in seasons past (last season didn't get good until the end.) A few guy fights and more love between Dawn and Q --who are DEFINITELY still together... sounds like last season. But if I know anything about Diddy (and I do, because we share the same birthday!!) he knows how to make a mountain out of a mole hill, and I will definitely be watching. The new season is set to air Thursday, February 12, 2009 at 9 PM on MTV. Check your local listing for further details. (lol)
So, with a simple keystroke or 804, to be exact, I begin this journey to create content that not only gives me personal enjoyment, but is also entertaining. Sounds easy right? ...Let's just say there is not such a thin line between what one would think is interesting and what others would find entertaining. At any rate, I have some of the blog world's best, [by blog world I mean those people that I know of, who blog] providing me with help and insight into what makes a good, no -GREAT blog. You can expect plenty of album, single, performance reviews, maybe even a few tour reviews here and there. HOWEVER, I don't ever want to limit myself or my blog- when I know I can cover more, therefore, you will see insights on a few other topics as well.
